Ode to the rim brake

A friend recently asked me about the purchase of a new bike, whether to chose disc or rim brakes. Contrary to popular trends (and availability) I suggested he take the rim brake Bianchi Nirone - ask me WHY?? well, because the rim brake is easy to tend. Simple as that. It will brake just as well and never leave you wanting for more. Just adjust a cable every so often, clean the rim bed and change a pad every now and again - in your living room, if you want, on your Persian carpets!
Now, if you prefer hydraulic disc brakes because
they are super powerful then I forewarn that they will need regular maintenance, bleeding, cleaning, adjustment to counter weak braking power, noise, and pad wear/lever reach. And if power is your game then you know how well as road bike tire grips the road when you really lay down the power....no matter how powerful your perception of the brake system the road bike tire is never to be made to stop on a dime or provide traction. Road riding is about power and finesse.
